madeleine wickham - sophie kinsella - author shopaholic series ny times best seller - chick lit fiction writer
the idea girl says
all the copies of Madeleine Wickhams books were out except one so I grabbed it and was surprised to see the easy to read large print.
Made it very easy to read and read it I did.
Over the past few days I’ve been super busy so I could only fit it in every now and then until today.
I finished reading the final 200 pages.
a lovely story about a young girl’s first crush, how several families become connected through affairs and
the hardships of being financially strapped and in a marriage that seems to be rather boring.
Best selling author of the shopaholic series, we’ve all grown to love Sophie Kinsella’s books.
I find the two styles of writing like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, but in a good way.
Sophie’s other books are quite predictable as we follow along with Rebbeca Bloomwood’s many funny mishaps.
As Madeleine Wickham I find her characters more series and darker in some cases.
Like in Liz Chambers case, she goes from being the perfect housewife/teacher to a tyrant by the end of the book.
Funny how greed changes someone.
I like the steady pace of the character Jonathan Chambers as he tries to keep everything together while his wife tapers off from doing her duties and yet he remains supportive.
The rebellious 14 year old Alice is to me the main character of this book , making it more like a young adult read if anything.
This book will appeal to ages 12 and up for female or male audiences.
Its fun, yet serious and very educational I find.
